The Virginia Junior Hereford Association is thriving and seeing yearly growth all due to the members of the Hereford Association that share their passion of raising and showing cattle with its’ juniors. In 2016 Virginia Hereford Association member Rebecca “Becky” Monger came forth the board to present her vision for the juniors. Becky agreed to make a generous donation in which she continues to donate yearly to start a Heifer Scholarship Program and Financial Scholarship Program.
The Heifer Scholarship Program was designed to get more juniors involved in showing and raising cattle that may not have the funds available to purchase a registered Hereford. Recipients of the Heifer Scholarship are awarded a heifer calf, in which they take to their new awarded heifer home, to raise, show and breed. The junior takes full ownership in the calf after being awarded at either the VA Beef Expo or Mid-Atlantic Fall Round Up. Besides the daily care and upkeep of raising a show heifer the junior agrees when the heifer reaches breeding age to have the heifer bred via AI and the first calf will be returned to the program to help with expenses or if a heifer, awarded to the next scholarship winner.

Members of the Virginia Junior Hereford Association or those interested in becoming a member are encouraged to fill out an application if interested in the Heifer Program. Additional questions can be submitted to VHA Secretary Cameron Kolinski at camsherefords@gmail.com We would love to have you and your family become members of our Association and share our passion for outstanding Hereford genetics.
